I

By Marta Urushadze on November 12, 2018

So, we were asked to write the history of our names, how we feel about it and how it feels about us 🙂 yeah, why not, maybe the name doesn’t like its owner, who knows.

I guess, Marta is a biblical name, she was a sister of Lazarus, the man who was restored to life by Jesus.

But I really don’t feel any connection to her, to be honest.

My name was always so natural to me, but growing up, it was a rare name in Georgia and everyone asked me to repeat it two or three times. It was quite annoying.

Actually, it’s kinda funny that I was named by my sister, who was only three years old at that time. My family was on a vacation and some kid in the neighbourhood was named Marta. My sister liked the name so much, she begged my dad and pregnant mom to name the baby Marta too. That’s the story.

My name is like an invisible thread that connects me to others.

So that I don’t get lost in myself again.

It’s a magical word, the string is pulled, and I’m back to real life.

The name has served me well.
