La Cetra
That was my first time to play with an orchestra. So, I was extremely nervous. I had no idea how it would sound. I also feared that I might fail to understand the gestures of the conductor and do something inappropriate. The only thing that gave me a consolation was that I didn’t have any long pauses, those comprising several bars. I would play the entire piece with the orchestra. This was indeed a great relief. Imagine that you have to pause and not play for four bars and then you start playing in the middle of the fifth bar. What if you don’t count properly because of being nervous and start playing too early or too late? How can the orchestra follow you then? There are many people in orchestra, it’s not just one man! And that’s what the conductor is needed for — to make many people one, to unite them.
The conductor raised his hands and we started and all of my worries stepped back. It was marvelous experience, something wonderful, something that I have never filled again. The waves of happiness filled my body. We were truly one, I and the orchestra, or rather us and the music.
We played one of the Vivaldi violin concertos from the collection “La Cetra”. It is nonsense to describe the music in words, no matter how hard one tries. So, I’m sharing this piece with you. I hope, you enjoy listening to it, as I enjoyed playing it.
