A creator
By Oksana Lebedivna on November 18, 2018
my body is a coconut
left in open water
somewhere between
New York and the Taj Mahal
winds treat it as well as
creators treat their creations
but listen listen to me
they all are just flowing out of
my body just flowing out of it
pretending to alienate it to push it off
to love it and hate it
I repeat my body is a coconut
totally closed
~
when the sun sets
her body hears
shrill sounds of birds flying in
to bite and hit her with their beaks
they learn to make a hole
in her skin and bones
one big hole for them all to get in
but her body is a coconut
somewhere between
New York and the Taj Mahal
…she is reeling with chilling
voices in her ears
that whisper one question
over and over again
BIO

Oksana Lebedivna
She lives in Kyiv and loves “Hamlet” by William Shakespeare and “Ulysses” by James Joyce / Homer. I am currently studying for Ph.D. in historical phonology of Ukrainian at National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. As it turned out, I also do a translation from Polish to Ukrainian. I have an overwhelming desire to understand her reading Joys and Shakespeare. But I’m not always getting her point well. Believe me, I’m not kidding you.
