We <3

Mariam Aloyan

One day, I will gather all these stories and write a big, honest novel, how my darling Kerouac wrote “On the Road” after his long travels. I want to say that literature for me is life, it’s freedom, it’s love, it’s experiences of life, experiences that you physically cannot live, no matter how much you try. In this literature, the most crucial part for me is the Human: Human with all its damaged glory. In an hour we talked with each other, we tried to be honest, we tried to get to know each other and I realized that more or less we are all concerned about the same issues: we are a new generation, here to face new challenges. I was curious to hear about the vast similarities between Georgians and Armenians, about our experience of music, our dreams, about our literature, our establishment in the society, about our loneliness and about the troubles of men and women. If we didn’t know we were from different countries, and all spoke one language, one could think we grew up in the same place, we all saw the same war and have the same issues. Thus, I stand by my point: different nationalities, countries and cultures, prevent us from getting to know one another, the way we truly are.  word “WE” is strong, but in that “WE” we should never lose our “I”-s and “You”-s. I am extremely interested in Georgian literature and I myself have a lot of stories that take place in Georgia, hence it was important for me to hear Mariam’s, Nino’s and Georgi’s thoughts. I didn’t know much about Ukrainian literature but thanks to the conversations with Polina and Tania I will make sure to get acquainted with this new reality, where we also can find ourselves. I am mostly interested in the literature that talks about This Generation. I am grateful to all, for introducing new issues to me, even briefly. This will indeed help me to write stories of Our generation. Undoubtedly, I will write stories, where you all will find yourselves one day, in characters more fictionized. And for now, this is it.

Hello, I’m Mariam, I’m 23 years old, I was born in Yerevan. I consider myself an art fan. I love to read books and discuss them with all kinds of people. I love to read books that reveal people’s thoughts and actions. This helps me to know myself. In the world I’m more interested in human, and in the process of creating I am interested in the most ordinary human problems. Life would be extremely dull without music and especially the Beatles. I can always listen to old rock music. I believe in Beatles’ music and the love they spread, and I’m sure that the real love and devotion can save people. I work at Zangak bookstore, trying to help people find interesting books, and discuss with them their favorite books. Besides this I conduct interviews with cultural figures about various topics leaving the book in the main topic. You sent I love and read modern literature, because I think that everybody should be aware of modern developing cultural and literary lifestyles. I will be happy to constantly develop my knowledge, find new and interesting friends, so that I always have a topic to create. I like to dream and believe in my dreams.
